New Wiregrass Ranch hospital anchors Orlando Health expansion in Pasco County

Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health has opened its new Wiregrass Ranch Hospital in Wesley Chapel, launching a 102-bed facility that anchors a larger medical campus planned to expand to 300 inpatient beds and 150,000 square feet of outpatient space as Pasco County’s population continues to grow.

The hospital at 3000 Wiregrass Ranch Blvd. begins operations with 102 licensed beds, including 12 intensive care beds, nine operating rooms, a 29-room emergency department and advanced cardiovascular and imaging services.

Hospital leaders said the facility was designed in partnership with physicians who will practice there, with plans to add beds and adjacent medical office and orthopedic buildings as demand increases.

The project represents the first hospital developed through the partnership formed when Florida Medical Clinic merged with Orlando Health in 2023.

The campus is expected to continue growing next year with two outpatient buildings totaling 150,000 square feet. A 90,000-square-foot medical office building will include an ambulatory surgery center, diagnostic imaging and physician offices for specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, vascular surgery, urology and women’s health.

A separate 60,000-square-foot orthopedic institute, developed with Orlando Health’s Jewett Orthopedic Institute, will house physician offices, therapy services, imaging and its own ambulatory surgery center.

Hospital President Joe Delatorre said the project grew out of Florida Medical Clinic’s decision to seek a health system partner after nearly three decades as an independent physician group.

Founded in 1993 by five physicians, the practice merged with Orlando Health on Aug. 1, 2023, creating Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health and paving the way for construction of the new hospital.

Orlando Health President and CEO David Strong said physicians, nurses and staff from both organizations helped shape the hospital’s design, with clinical teams influencing everything from patient flow to operating suites and cardiovascular services.

“This hospital wasn’t designed from a distance,” Strong said during the grand opening. “It was shaped by the physicians, nurses and team members who understand what great care requires.”

The hospital opens with approximately 450 employees. During the ceremony, Orlando Health also announced a $10,000 donation to Metropolitan Ministries after employees contributed more than 190 volunteer hours with the nonprofit during the months leading up to the opening.
