Grab your clubs: It will be a weekend for golf enthusiasts in the Tampa Bay area

After a year of canceled events, golf tournaments are back in full swing with The PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship kicking off this week and St. Pete Fools Charity Club holding its first annual golf tournament on Sunday, May 2.

Both tournaments will raise money for philanthropic causes.

In 2019, the Valspar Championship, held at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, in Palm Harbor, generated $2,274,686 for charity, marking the fourth straight year the tournament topped the $2 million mark.

Paul Casey will seek to win a PGA TOUR event three times in a row after his triumphs on the Copperhead in 2018 and 2019. It has been done eight times previously in the last 40 years, six of them by Tiger Woods. The most recent occurrence was Steve Stricker at the John Deere Classic in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Meeting virtually with the media on Wednesday, Casey talked about the situation. “I’m excited to finally be back, and I’m sure everyone else is, too.  It’s a great event.  It is one I have won back-to-back, and I’m looking for a third.  I feel like my game is good.”

The St. Pete Fools Charity Golf Tournament, which will take place at the Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club, in Seminole, has a goal to raise $20,000 to invest in tangible goods for The Kimberly House and the Florida Resurrection House, both serving women and children in Pinellas County.

Tickets for the St. Pete Fools tournament are sold out, but you can show support for St. Pete Fools Charity by donating here.

Tickets for The PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship are still available.
