GEICO opens Tampa campus, plans 1,500 jobs

GEICO officially opened its new Tampa campus Thursday as the insurer moves forward with plans to bring 1,500 jobs to the region and expand its presence in one of Florida’s fastest-growing professional employment markets.

The company marked the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Corporate Oaks Business Park, where local business leaders and elected officials joined executives at the new 190,000-square-foot campus.

The three-building complex already supports more than 500 employees. GEICO plans to hire an additional 500 workers through 2026, with further hiring expected in 2027.

The expansion comes as insurance companies, financial firms and other large employers continue adding office and operations jobs across the Tampa Bay region.

Companies have continued targeting Tampa for its growing labor pool, lower operating costs and steady population growth. Demand for experienced workers in customer service, claims management, operations and sales also has increased as more firms expand in the market.

GEICO now employs about 4,400 people across Florida, including operations in Tampa, Lakeland and Jacksonville.

The Tampa campus will support insurance sales, service and claims operations, along with leadership development programs.

The company first announced the Tampa expansion in March 2025. Since then, GEICO has partnered with the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa to recruit graduates and introduce students to careers in insurance, claims and operations.

“As the Sunshine State’s second-largest auto insurer, GEICO is thrilled to expand our footprint with the opening of our new office right here in Tampa,” Denise O’Malley, GEICO’s head of sales operations, said during the event.

Amy Wolfe, the company’s head of insurance services, said Tampa’s workforce and business climate influenced the company’s expansion plans.

“The region’s robust talent pool and dynamic business environment make it the ideal location, allowing us to better serve our growing customer base with various insurance products while creating significant employment opportunities,” Wolfe said.

“Tampa continues to attract companies that are investing for the long term, and GEICO’s decision to open this new Tampa campus reflects that confidence,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said in a statement. “As one of the state’s largest employers in the insurance industry, GEICO’s expansion supports job growth, strengthens our business community and reinforces Tampa’s appeal as a place to live and work.”

Craig Richard, president and CEO of the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, said the project reflects corporate investment in the Tampa market.

“Tampa has emerged as Florida’s center of gravity for high-value economic activity where companies don’t just grow — they scale beautifully,” Richard said. “And I have no doubt that GEICO will scale successfully here, too.”

The Tampa expansion follows other recent GEICO investments in growth markets across the country, including North Texas, as the Berkshire Hathaway-owned insurer continues expanding nationwide.

The new campus adds to a growing concentration of finance, insurance and professional-services employers expanding across Tampa Bay as companies continue building regional hubs in the market.
