Water Street Tampa continues to attract restaurant brands from outside the region, and the latest is Miami-based Pura Vida.
Plans filed with the City of Tampa show the wellness café intends to open at 1038 Water Street, next to Wagamama, in the center of the downtown district. The build-out covers 4,209 square feet inside, plus 562 square feet of outdoor seating.
The filing includes new interior finishes, lighting, millwork and seating, along with a pergola and patio dining area. Plans show the café would use electric rapid-cook ovens instead of open-flame cooking.
Founded in 2012 by Omer and Jennifer Horev, Pura Vida began as a single café in Miami and has expanded across Florida, New York and California. The company opened two Sarasota-area locations since 2024, marking its expansion into the Gulf Coast market.
Growth at Water Street Tampa continues
A Pura Vida location at Water Street would place the brand inside one of downtown Tampa’s fastest-growing mixed-use districts.
Water Street Tampa, the waterfront development led by Strategic Property Partners, has grown into a tightly packed mix of offices, apartments, hotels and street-level retail. A 2023 economic impact study found that its first phase created nearly 6,000 permanent jobs and generated more than $500 million in annual economic output for the region.
The district now includes dozens of restaurant and retail tenants and four hotels: Tampa Marriott Water Street, JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, The Tampa EDITION and ROOST Tampa.
In a November interview with Tampa Bay Business and Wealth, The Tampa EDITION’s general manager, Chris Southwick, said Water Street has helped reshape downtown into a hub for high-end dining and hospitality.

The project remains under city review. Strategic Property Partners, which is headquartered at Water Street, declined to comment.
