St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corp. names new president and CEO

Michael D. Swesey has been named president and chief executive officer of the St. Petersburg Area Economic Development Corporation.

Swesey has more than 30 years of economic development experience. He previously held a variety of roles at the Greater Des Moines Partnership in Des Moines, Iowa, most recently as executive vice president.

He has led 30 successful expansion and relocation projects each year, creating more than $1 billion in new capital investment, according to a statement from the St. Pete EDC.

Swesey fills the role left vacant by J.P. DuBuque, who left the EDC in May, to join Rivero, Gordimer & Company as chief operating officer.

Swesey begins his new role on November 6.
