It’s almost time to pull out the noisemakers and confetti, because 2024 is right around the corner. To celebrate the end of 2023, you can host a New Year’s Eve party, serve festive drinks or turn on a New Year’s Eve movie, like Happy New Year, Charlie Brown. But there’s no better activity than counting down with the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square.
Although the ball of crystal is actually a year-round attraction, it serves its most important purpose on Dec. 31, when the almost 12,000-pound sphere is raised up into the air at 6 p.m. in front of over a million people bracing for it to come down and let us know a new year has officially arrived. According to the Times Square’s official website, the ball drop has been a New Year’s tradition for over 115 years. Even better, the night is filled with broadcasts, shows and special performances from nearly every television network.
