Avelo Airlines makes commercial route announcement for Lakeland Linder Airport

Lakeland Linder International Airport (LAL) made a major announcement adding a commercial flight from Avelo Airlines.

Avelo Airlines will begin nonstop commercial flights to New Haven, Connecticut, beginning June 13. Flights will be to Tweed New Haven Airport, on Thursday, and from there to Lakeland, on Sunday, according to the Avelo website.

The City of Lakeland previously reached an agreement between the airport, Visit Central Florida and Avelo that paved the way for the return of commercial passenger air service to LAL.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation’s 2022 Florida Aviation Economic Impact Study, Lakeland Linder was generating an economic impact to the tune of more than $1.5 billion.

“There is still much work to be done before air service starts, which includes an expanded security screening checkpoint, parking lot modifications and new aircraft markings, among other improvements,” said a statement on LAL’s website.

Avelo planes currently fly to 50 destinations including Fort Myers, Orlando and West Palm Beach.
