Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis selected four law firms with a Tampa Bay area presence to participate in a new initiative Lawyers Assisting Warriors, or LAW.
The LAW initiative will draw from the talent of the firms to provide pro bono legal services for military members.
The law firms designated by the governor include Gunster, Greenberg Traurig, Holland & Knight, and Shutts & Bowen.
The program will focus on providing legal representation to active duty members in limited civil matters, such as landlord/tenant disputes, debt payment issues, wills, trusts, and consumer fraud cases. In a later phase, the program may expand its scope to provide legal services to veterans.
DeSantis announced the initiative on April 18 during a visit to the Armament Museum at Eglin Air Force Base.
