The St. Petersburg Museum of History plans to renovate and build an 8,000-square-foot addition. The expansion will include an exhibition gallery, showcasing city and state history, a visitor’s center and a rooftop terrace overlooking the waterfront.
The project will be completed in three phases. The first floor of the expansion will have a welcome center, a gift shop and a conference room. A new, 4,000-square-foot, interactive, modern main gallery will be located on the second floor.
The renovation and expansion will be a public and private project, with a goal of raising $7 million to finance it. The museum already has received a $1 million commitment from the city.
Exterior construction is expected to be finished by March, with interior work to be finished by June.
