ThreeBridge outlines security tips for your Zoom meetings

Within the past few weeks, unique working conditions have led to significant spikes in the usage of the Zoom platform. More than 200 million daily meeting participants have utilized Zoom during the month of March, compared to the average 10 million daily users in December 2019.

This increased traffic has exposed issues with user security and privacy. ThreeBridge, a consulting firm in Tampa, has outlined some solutions to use Zoom in a safe way.

To ensure the security and privacy of yourself, your colleagues and your company, consider following these steps to require passwords for all of your Zoom meetings:

  • Log in to your Zoom account via a web browser at zoom.us.
  • Click “My Account” in the top right corner of your browser and navigate to “Settings.”
  • Under “Schedule Meeting” in your Meeting settings, turn on: ­

“Require a password when scheduling new meetings” ­

“Require a password for instant meetings” ­

“Require a password for Personal Meeting ID” ­

“Require a password for participants joining by phone”

Additionally, if you have installed the Zoom plugin for Microsoft Outlook, you can double-check that each meeting is password protected before the invite is sent.

  • Open a new meeting or appointment in Outlook.
  • In the toolbar, select “Zoom”, then “Add a Zoom Meeting.”
  • Next to the Zoom icon in the toolbar is a Zoom Settings button. Click Settings and ensure that the checkbox next to “Require Meeting Password” has been filled.
