USF Health awarded $10 million to establish Florida Center for Emergency Medical Services

USF also receives $1.5 million gift from alum

The state of Florida has awarded USF Health a $10 million grant to establish the Florida Center for Emergency Medical Services at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), in Tampa. This initiative aims to improve emergency medical service methodologies, educational curricula and disaster preparedness strategies, across the state.

The funding, provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through the Florida Department of Health, will support the center’s initiatives over four years.

In addition to the grant, USF announced a $1.5 million estate gift from alum Valerie Riddle and her husband, David Reader. This gift will support the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy and USF Athletics’ Stampede for Women.

USF President Rhea Law expressed gratitude for the gift, noting its positive impact on students across several programs. Riddle, a graduate of the Morsani College of Medicine, has dedicated her career to supporting future physicians and fostering alumni connections. A portion of the new gift will enhance the Riddle Family Memorial Scholarship, established in 2013, to support medical students.
