YMCA of the Suncoast names new president and CEO

The YMCA of the Suncoast Board of Directors has appointed Christian J. Engle as the organization’s next president and chief executive officer, succeeding retiring leader G. Scott Goyer.

Engle, currently the president and CEO of the YMCA of the Capital Area in Baton Rouge, La., brings over 30 years of YMCA leadership experience, including a previous role as district vice president for the YMCA of the Suncoast.

“Christian is a visionary leader who will build on the strong foundation set by Scott,” said Kimberly Briggs, board chair of the YMCA of the Suncoast. “We thank Scott Goyer for his dedicated service and lasting impact on our community.”

Engle, a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, began his YMCA career with the Channel Islands YMCA in Santa Barbara, Calif. He has overseen a range of YMCA programs, from youth and teen initiatives to aquatics and residential camps. He has raised more than $40 million for YMCA development and led multiple national YMCA committees.

He will officially begin his new role in late November.
